Lillian Blye Gist, 86, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2012. She has been a Peninsula resident for over 50 years.
Lillian was a member of First Baptist Church in Hampton, where she served on the Womens Auxiliary and Greeters Ministry. She retired in 1991 as an elementary school teacher in York County after 44 years of service. Lillian was an active volunteer at Mary Immaculate Hospital with countless hours of service. She was a member of the Alpha Beta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, the Virginia Retired Teachers Association, and the Aberdeen Historic and Civic Association.
Survivors include one son, Claude E. Gist and his wife, Freda, of Yorktown; two grandchildren, Nicole Gist of New York and Sean Gist of Yorktown; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 7:30 PM Monday, April 30, 2012 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 12 Noon, Tuesday, May 1, 2012, in First Baptist Church, Hampton, with Rev. Richard Wills officiating. Burial will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
